If you have foot problems or want to avoid them, this is the book. Endorsed by Runner’s World in 2000 for a previous edition, this third edition has evolved and remained a great resource for those who stand or participate in endurance sports. It is for those who wish to maintain healthy feet.
For hikers, runners, dancers, tennis players, plant workers or any athlete or someone who stands all day.
Written by ultra-marathon director and orthopedic technician John Vonhof, this book is a great guide for those who are ultra distance runners or employees who spend all day standing on concrete floors.
The author doesn’t engage in complicated medical jargon but explains in plain English how to prevent and correct a number of problems relating to our feet.
From Bunions and blister prevention to Achilles tendonitis treatment.

Hailed as the foot ‘Bible”, Fixing Your Feet: Prevention And Treatments for Athlete presents some common sense solutions to some very irritating problems like Vaseline on the feet for blister prevention and tincture of benzoin as a skin toughener. Many of the tips have been executed in locker rooms for years. Many of them are dirt-cheap solutions to nagging problems.

Also covered are more solutions to blister prevention and treatment, athlete’s foot, sprains and even resources for supplies and equipment. Think of the money you’d spend on gratuitous products that didn’t work and what you could avoid buying by using an intelligent guide to what works and what doesn’t.
It is available is some libraries but is a good book to have at home for reference and I’d recommend that if you suffer from foot problems, you invest the $13 in this guide. You do want to own the latest version as important updates and tips are included.

Biomechanics of the feet
I have been told my many orthopedists, podiatrists and athletes that the good biomechanics of the feet are key to avoiding injuries of the lower limbs. Therefore this guide can often contain or eliminate those problems you have with knees, calves, Achilles, ankles, hips and even lower back. Issues like shin splints and knee pain can often be aggravated by problems with the feet.
It covers how you select the right shoes to products and gear that can prevent injury. And this site is all about preventing injury and coming back from one so you can continue to enjoy sport and exercise.
Diagrams, pictures and hand holding instructions
Clear, concise, precise. I like a book that cuts to the chase. And this does exactly that.
Keep in mind
I’m not going to tell you that this takes the place of a good foot doctor. A good foot doctor like a orthopedic specialist or podiatrist is worth his weight in gold and can prescribe for you precisely the treatment that will work for you.
This book offers tips based on what kind of feet you have. That’s the intuitive part that you have to do for yourself if you’ve not had a doctor tell you. So you need to figure that out and figure out that which works for you since not everything works for every body. And there are several solutions to different foot problems based on the type of feet you have. Don’t think you have to be a top-notch endurance athlete to appreciate this book.
