In a nutshell, Coach tape is a high quality, breathable cloth tape used by professional athletic trainers to protect joints from injury/sprains and provide support to help speed recovery after injury.

Avoid wrapping it too tightly if you are doing this solo as that can hinder blood circulation. For ankles, use foam undertape as the base layer and use this on top. For thumb tapings start with a gauze pad between the two finger

Directions:

Stretch and wrap loosely around body part to be taped. Two layers is sufficient coverage. Cut or tear to desired length. Apply tape directly on the underwrap.

Coach Tape- Foam undertape. The ATC Gold Standard

I have used this for years and the athletic trainers use it by the case. I buy several packages at a time. Do not confuse this with the tape you use for wounds. That is stiff and too sweaty.

You need the breathable kind. You can cut slits to offer more give. I use this tape for my right ankle to prevent ankle pain due to high arches.

Great for My Kit

Because I am on my feet for long periods of a time with either a large pack or on a large run, I carry this in my foot care kit anytime I leave the house. This product has been invaluable to me on the trail and in the field. It is inexpensive and easy to use.
